Exemptions
The Admissions and Certifications committee is responsible for the application of the Admissions policy and the Certifications policy as set by the International CIO Institute.

This policy provides guidelines allowing the committee to use its discretion in granting exemptions from the requirements under certain conditions.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The Admissions and Certifications committee may at its discretion recognise certain prior study as being equivalent to the completion of one or more modules of the Institute’s certified training program.

If approved by the committee, applicants will be credited as having completed the relevant training modules of the Institute.

Please note that certification as a Member or Fellow is a recognition of both academic knowledge of management disciplines as they relate to the CIO’s role, and a breadth of actual experience in the application of that knowledge in a real-world environment.

Completion of higher education (full MBA or equivalent) will not automatically qualify the applicant for Certified Member or Certified Fellow status.

Industry Experience

The Admissions and Certifications committee may at its discretion recognise industry experience as being equivalent to the completion of one or more modules of the Institute’s certified training program.

If approved by the committee, applicants will be credited as having completed the relevant training modules of the Institute.

The applicant will need to show that their specific on-the-job experience has involved and demonstrated a mastery over the relevant management disciplines.

Please note that certification as a Member or Fellow is a recognition of both academic knowledge of management disciplines as they relate to the CIO’s role, and a breadth of actual experience in the application of that knowledge in a real-world environment.

Long term on-the-job experience will not automatically qualify the applicant for Certified Member or Certified Fellow status.
